New P/B - 14.6 @ 94 mph

I went back out to the track this past friday night to catch one of the last test and tune nights for the season. Temps were mid-40's to low-50's for the time I was there, pressure was around 30.4, humidity went up to 89% by the end of the night, and the elevation is 1024 feet above sea level.

My new best run is as follows:

60' - 2.213
1/8 - 9.458 @ 74.81
1/4 - 14.667 @ 94.07

Mods: Warpspeed Y, Custom 2.5" catback w/ 5G muffler, 5G clutch kit, K&N panel filter and hacked intake, Toyo Proxes TPT set at 24psi, KYB AGX and CMS spings set at street firmness (3F/5R), SRE STS

I attribute this new P/B to the weather and not running heatsoaked. This might be the last time I drag race my Maxima...who knows. I now have the time I was after, so I'm happy. My previous best was a 2.208 60' / 14.822 @ 92.9 (93.18 was my best mph run).

Let me know what you think.

Not bad. Stock IM for the win.

Jon and Zack - Thanks for the complements!

I forgot to say, I had about an 1/8th tank of 93 octane, spare and jack were still in the car, as was a socket set and a "road side safety set" (don't laugh, it has a tire air compressor, very handy on track days), along with full SE fully optioned interior.

Thanks for the replies so far, I appreciate it.

Congrats on the new PB.

"last time I drag race my Maxima"

Any plans for the 240? I assume that's why you wouldn't be racing the Max?

You guessed it...haha. Thanks for the compliments and your advice (from the last time I posted my time a month ago).

Plans for the 240? Well, first replace the engine (a lower mileage SOHC), fix two rust/rot spots before they get any worse, fix the sunroof and realign the driverside door to start. A full paint polish is going to happen to cure the oxidized white paint as well.
As for mods...I plan on going ka-t by the way of a SOHC turbo. I'm looking for around 250whp from a t28 or smaller t3 (like a Z31 turbo), I haven't yet decided. I'll probably want to go t3 just to make upgrading later easier, but this will be decided when I find/buy a decent manifold. Of course with all that comes supporting mods (370-550cc injectors (there are some RX-7 that flow in between that), fuel pump, exhaust, log-style turbo mani (hoping to find a used gladman), sr sidemount/small front mount (again, haven't decided), and a Rom tuner (haven't researched this too extensively yet, but I'll be able to burn my own tunes), etc, etc). The suspension is shot, so that'll have to come soon as well, and I haven't been able to test the brakes yet either. I'm also looking into which clutch will best suit my needs.
Luckily, I have another year to decide what I want to do, and to narrow down my parts list. Ahh...what was I thinking? I'll probably drag my Maxima again before that.

I don't remember posting in your track horror story thread...but congrats on the 13 flat, and sorry to hear about the engine failure. Have you decided if you're going to swap everything to another 3.0 or are you going straight to the 3.5?

Haha so basically you have to overhaul the whole car. lol. It'll be a good project though and satisfying once it's done. Mind you, it's pretty satisfying going fast in a Maxima and surprising the heck out of people. lol.

I will be staying 3.0 for one more year. I can't afford to build the 3.5 I want to yet. Originally, I was planning to do it this coming year, but then I went and bought a house, and am going to AUS/NZ for 8 weeks so the 3.5 will have to wait one more year. I am going to probably add a couple things to the 3.0 though to hopefully knock a few tenths more off.

Haha, I know the feeling man...people were surprised enough with the 14.6, I can't imagine hitting 13's and seeing people's reactions, nevermind a 13 flat.

I love Maximas...but I feel it's time to move on. In another thread where I stated what I was going to do to my newfound 240sx, I pretty much said that MY specific Maxima has quirks that IF I were to upgrade seriously (bc in reality, what I've done to this car is very small) I would want all of them fixed, which means pouring more money into this car than mods alone. When I bought the car as an internet based car enthusiast (loved cars but never had real world experience), and found out somethings about my specific car later on down the road that I wish I would have known beforehand/had the knowledge to be able to see. Point - the overly common differential bearing failure showed itself an HOUR after taking the car home, and was pouring gear oil out of the driverside axle seal. This was fixed under warranty, but it just goes to show that other things have happened that I wasn't originally aware of. Hell, if I found a clean example of a 5MT Maxima, I would have to think twice about getting another.

I've learned a lot from this car -- it was my first car. And, I'll still be driving this beast for up to another whole year if nothing really bad happens to it (ie stolen, accident, etc). I'm just yearning for the RWD/turbo driving experience, and having the ability to start ona clean slate with the hands on experience I've gained from working on my Maxima.

edit: As far as overhauling the whole car...it won't necessarily feel like that. Everything I've mentioned above will be done in stages. The immediate goal is to get this car running strong and reliably (replacing the engine, maintanence, suspension/brakes if need be, and repairing the rust/rot in two areas). Later on the turbo project will start...it'll be a progression.

edit one more time: I'm in LOVE with the shifter feel in the 240sx...soooooooo much smoother than Maxima's.
