I haven't seen any times posted for the new max yet so maybe I'll be the first. A quick note: Even in the manumatic mode, the computer handles shifts by itself. It took me 3 passes to get over this and to let the computer handle those duties.
The pass went like this:

60'......2.29
330.....6.591
1/8......9.959 @ 73.48
1k.......12.852
1/4......15.303 @ 92.26

I expected far better times than this. What do you guys think?

That 60' isn't that bad. Doesn't really reflect the 1/4 et or MPH.

19mph in the final 1/8th ..

yeah thats not right..well maybe it is. the accel is awesome but then it seems like it just takes a dump on ya. my max with the mods im running will dip into the mid 14's with a better driver than me i can just get to 14'8 or so. (just my guess havent had it to a track, please tell me if you think im slower or faster. mod list in profile)

Keep in mind that these passes were made at a sea level track. Though it may not have been optimum conditions, it definitely was far from poor weather conditions. I feel that I'm a pretty experienced drag racer, so, even though it may be possible to improve on these times on a different day, I feel that this is the best it could do at that time.

I had the opportunity to weigh it while at the track...3860 with me in it. I'm 235

How many miles on the car? My car ran .4 and 2.3 mph better at 10k miles, than at 1k miles with the same track conditions. My 60' times are consistantly in the low 2's.
She'll get better......

If you ran this weekend on the east coast then condition don't get any better. The DA was almost -1000 feet at some points out there this weekend - high 40s low 50s and the highest barometric pressure i've ever heard of (It was over 30.60 in some places).

That is pitifully slow (I'm not ragging on you, I'm raggin on Nissan for only offering that CVT crap in the new maxima). I hope that time is not representative of the best the new CVT maximas are capable of.

The Maxima is just a big car, with the race weight at 3860 pounds. i think we are looking at 1 HP for every 15 lbs of car, or 15.1 lbs./HP. (weight/power) and this is using the factory hp rating at the crank not the wheels.

That is just terrible! Really a let down. It seems like Nissan is making this car to be more and more like the Toyota Avalon. More of a luxury car. Looks like the Altima is what they are leaving us with for the future.

The new Avalon will rape the new Maxima.

If we want any semblance of a new maxima, it would be the altima...it took over the position the max once had.

However, I think that this car could see better times once it is broken in...go to the track around 10k miles and you'll probably be in the 14s...

Glad I got my 5sp....I gotta agree I would shy away from another maxima after this unless it has a 'normal' transmission...not some tree huggin CVT.

yeah, what did happen to the maxima ? only need to go back to the 6th gen commericals to see how the marketing changed. todays maxima would either be the Altima like suggested earlier or the Infinti G35 Sedan which would have been the greatest Maxima of all times sporting the vq35de and RWD. With the G, owners would have gotten nice luxury and nice power which would make a sweet combo.

nothing wrong with the 6th, very nice , with performance possibly taking a back seat in stock form.

furthermore even the New Zealand 6th Gen Nissan Maxima Spec R is pretty sweet on looks, but way low in the power department boasting some 240 odd hp and auto box.

Surely a Spec R would have a bit more grunt than this ?

why am I not surprised to see a 6th genner bashing the CVT? Yet they get pissed at all of the other gens when they say the max died with the 6th gen? I think that's what you call ironic

CVT > 5AT in this application, because the maxima is now marketed toward a different crowd. The smoothness and efficiency of the CVT is a much greater marketing tool to 98% of drivers on the road now, so it was a smart move on nissan's part. You can clearly see that the CVT was geared more toward daily driving and less toward sport in the time slip, because initial acceleration as actually quite good, but it loses serious steam up top where 98% of the people buying a maxima will not use it...

damn good 60'!! I knew those things would be good off the line. Like I said before, I think the only problem is that they seem to lose some power up top. Are there still no dynos for the CVT maxes yet?

I'm not sure, but I remember a while back a couple people "tested" a 5AT against the new CVT max and they were even up till around 80 iirc and then the 5AT pulled away

Yeah I saw that. But I guess I need to drive one at those speeds. I'm guessing the transmission can't take the load too long so Nissan set it up where it reduces the power at those speeds. Once someone figures out a way to program their own "gear ratios" it will be quite fun

I was thinking of that, too. But considering the CVT does have a range of gear ratios (not sure what they are) I wonder if we're just seeing it start to near the top?

The car was 2 mph slower when making a pass in drive. The car was .2 slower when making a pass in manual. I had to launch the car in drive then switch over to manual around 70 mph to get these times. It is the most unusual thing I've ever seen. I made back to back passes using each method and found the results were extremely consistent.

14.61@almost 95 mph is pretty good for a 3860 lbs raceweight. Although Ive read there was a stock 2004 auto that ran a 14.27 (record for a stock auto).

Well it appears that every time I take the '07 back to the track it continues to run quicker. Todays new best went like this.

60'.....2.15
330.....6.192
660.....9.363@76.64
1k.......12.155
1/4......14.537@ ? (mph clocks were screwed up)

I feel alot better about the new times.

I think I pretty much have the launch figured out. With a set of drag tires, I think the max has the torque to dip down into the 1.9s. The car is completely stock. I did remove the air filter once for a run but it made no difference.

Nice times

What was your track prep, spare tire in or out, tire pressure, etc?
