launch critique

FilefrontWMV

Hey I posted my times about a month ago when I ran a 16 flat in my 2000 SE. My 60' was horrible in all my times, 2.6-2.5.

Heres the type of launch I used at the track. 2000 rpms, brake all the way down. This was done in my friend's private parking lot so its legal.

If anyone can tell me what im doing wrong id love to know, and if you think you hear something wrong with the car.

i would prefer youtube vid, ps3 wont let me view that site... however you have an auto, cant be too hard...
1. floor brakes while pressing gas to 1800-2K rpm
2. on last yellow floor gas and let of the brakes immediately, simple...
c'mon dont make it too complicated dudes will flame you

sometimes theres not much you can do with the auto other than physically swapping things out or doing mods....ur car is just a 2.5-2.6 60 foot car as it stands.
my 96 auto, no matter what wouldnt pull anything quicker than a 2.4, no matter what i tried, no matter how hard i tried.

try a different psi? neutral drop that bish? go through the water just a tiny bit so that maybe you'll spin a tad at the line?

drop weight and put on some sticker rubber at lower pressure (AKA, SLICKS AT 12PSI )

I don't know much about autos, never driven one at the track that I can recall, but you might try flashing the converter.

Whatever RPM your car will stall up to, hold the gas at a couple hundred RPM below that. Then as the tree is coming down, floor the gas and in almost the same motion, but just a fraction of a second later, release the gas. Sometimes using this technique will allow the car to flash the converter up above whatever it stalls at by a couple hundred rpm and can help get you out of the hole. I don't know if this works in a maxima and I've never tried it as I said, never driven an auto at the track, but it's a technique i've heard of.

For example if your car can stall up to 2000rpm, try maybe holding it at 1800rpm or so, and as the tree is coming down floor it, you might be able to launch at like 2100 or 2200 if your converter will flash above your normal stable stall rpm.

Flashing the converter like above works well, but you may have to feather the throttle a touch to get off the line without excessive wheel spin. Stay out of the water, don't do a huge burnout either, just makes street tires spin more on launch. Just do a quick spin, like one second or so to clean the tires off and then stage.

"it is stock =0" than close it if you got it popped. my bad if its not it just sounds like it. that will def help your 60 foot time...next time you go gut your whole trunk...spare jack everything...good luck

are you planning on modding your max? i would definitely look into getting suspension just by how the rear end on your car squats pretty hard at launch. that can cause you to run slower times

try leaving a idle, as a auto I would get a better 60ft at around 1000-1200 then 2000rpms. just like stated before a maxima TC is around 1800 so when you power brake to 2000k your already engaged

look at the vid in my sig, I as you can heard I did not rev up just left a idle on street tires and pulled a 2.0

+1111111111

When i used to take my car to the track every other weekend I cut much better 60' when launching from around 1krpm rather than trying to launch off of a "stall".

put the tire pressure to 25 and floor it.. and you spin at take off then lower some more i take it as you are auto dont do the brake torque it kills the powerband

the stand still launch without the power breaking definitely seems to be faster.

Track...

My advise to this guy is to lower psi.. wat kind of gas are you using? I think your tires are garbage tho... if all fails put some radials on and just drop from 6k for 2.1 60ft..lol...if u wanna get all u can get.

I haven't been to the track yet this year. Your take off is a lot like mine and it's pretty bad as far as 60' times. Ranges from 2.57 to 2.44....never less. Best times did come with some torque braking at about 1.5k. But I only did that at one track night, so I am not real sure which rpm is best.

I will say in regards to launch technique, one night I decided to test my 0 - 60 MPH from many different setups...

If I can remember them all.. (this is an 02 6-speed)

2-Step at 1500 RPM
2-Step at 3000 RPM
2-Step at 5000 RPM In second gear
2-Step at 5500 RPM in second gear
1000 RPM (2-step won't go lower then 1000) launch
and finally...
from idle...

turned out my best time was from idle by about .4 seconds (0-60 MPH)

I believe I might have tested those same numbers without the 2-step engaged but either way I got much better times with the idle launch... taking it slow and not slamming it to WOT... my 2 cents

P.S this was in my private strait away in my back yard...

I am going to the track tonight.. I have an 05 ALtima SE-R (6-spd) lowered sitting on the stock 18" forged wheels... I just bought new Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires.. What should I expect at the track?? I want to land a low 14, but wheel spin is soooo badd in all of our cars, mine will bounce off the rev-limiter atleast 3 times before catching traction and using up the whole gear.. If the track is really sticky Im thinking I will launch at 2500, if it is not sitcky at all Im thinking i will just feather the throttle on from the line. Let me know... thx
