Removed USIM from 3.5 and put 3.5IM on, disappointed with track results.
I got my 3.5IM installed on my 3.5 swap finally, I had been running with USIM (3.0 Intake Manifold) before.
I made most of my runs with a VIAS block off plate installed.
EDITED with more analysis:
Before I edited this thread I said I was not too disappointed with the results but then I found the timeslips that I'd forgotten about from June of this year and I'm disappointed again.
I've never before corrected my numbers to sea level but I decided to see what the trap speeds correct to using DA correction.
In June I ran with the USIM installed and trapped as high as 101.74 with a DA of 1900' which corrects to 104.0mph. My traps on 8-2-09 were 102.x for the most part with some high 101s with a DA of 2200-2300 translates to 104.5-105.2mph I'm not sure what to think here. I would think that the addition of the USIM to the 3.5, with the ports being perfectly matched now and all, would be more significant.
Granted the car was about 70lbs heavier so that might be worth half a MPH or something, but I was hoping to see more. Also though I was on slicks this time as opposed to street tires, it's a different track, etc, so it's not the best comparison I guess. I'm heading to the same track as I went to with the USIM next week perhaps, so maybe I'll get some more data then.
Here is my setup:
95 SE 5spd
2002 3.5L with stock 3.0 cams, 3.0 ECU, stock timing, 3.5IM with VIAS block off plate, rough tuned to 12.2AFR because my laptop died and I can't tune my emanage right now
Homemade generic intake, y-pipe, 3" exhaust
26x10.5x15" MT ET Streets on 15" Welds ProStars
3050lb race weight
I can't wait to *possibly* get those headers modified and installed, and definitely get my Bikisoft ECU installed and really tune it. I think it'll move pretty well then but for now I'm a little disappointed.
Here is the breakdown of all the runs:
RT .017

neal that's weird....weather would have a big effect though....
i just did that intake manifold swap with just VIAS block off....it was 1700 DA it went 8.79 @ 83.23 in the 1/8th with street tires....
maybe the 3.0 cams are not helping at all now?? .......

Could be but the difference in the cams is fairly negligable if my memory is correct, something like 8mm of duration and another .9mm lift or something along those lines. It's hard to judge with only one set of datapoints from a different track on a totally different tire size and style (bias at 10psi vs radial at 32psi). I was thinking of going to the track again this weekend but it's supposed to be 100 degrees this weekend so maybe not.

Tire size could be affecting you also. 26" slicks are probably not ideal for your car sans turbo. It seems like there are too many other variables also.
You are definitely not optimized right now anyway, between the weather, AFR, stock timing, 3.0 cams, etc. you might not be able to realize the extra airflow of the 3.5 IM compared to the 3.0 IM.

Cams info, the three I've tried. I liked the stock 3.5 cams the best for driveability.
Stock 3.0 cams 8.55 mm lift
Stock 3.5 cams 9.5 mm lift
Aftermarket nismo 3.5 cams 10.7 mm lift
I can assure you that 70 pounds equals to .1 and 1 FULL mph on a maxima. Weight makes more of a difference than you think, I could feel a 40 lbs difference off the front end while driving the car.
I blew my engine BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I hate you.
