Man the antenna on that thing is Huge. You must get great reception!

 

I love the size of the antenna on mine, too. On the gearshift console, I have a switch to lower it to half mast -- so other people won't stare.

 

almost like hydros for your antenna. lol

 

It has a button on the console that makes it either full extension(as you see) or 1/2 extension. All electric as from the factory. -81Max

How well did the paint stick to your bumpers. I had done this previously on a honda and it didn't hold. I was imformed by a paint shop that that type bumper plastic cannot hold paint for very long, then it starts flaking.

the paint is sticking pretty well so far, i painted them over a month ago, and havent see any flaking yet. I don't think it will ever flake because the bumper was not made out of plastic like the Honda's. I bought the spray cans at walmart about one can per bumper and also a bottle of clear coat.

 

Look what I found in a shoebox, while cleaning out my closet --- scanned the picture yesterday.

Shortly after this pic was taken, I added Bosch Fog Lamps taken from a BMW ----- (from a salvage yard, of course!)

You assume correctly. The picture was taken in the summer of '84. I have a Nikon FE. A true photographer would have written down the lens, shutter-speed, and F stop, but I'm not... lol.

It was my Dad's main source of transportation until '94 -- I took over the reins from there. Years of sitting outside have taken its toll -- The Sun has warped the interior (no cracks though) and moisture has created some rust in rocker panel in seam below rear doors and rear bumper panel below taillights. It was rarely driven in salt, so it's still in pretty decent shape -- a very clean car.

It has been a reliable daily driver, except for the stretch in '95 where it would burn out voltage regulators. I checked the wiring diagrams and found that a joker mechanic had replaced a couple of fusible links with 18g wire. Also, the polarity was reversed. It still has problems idling at stop lights in 80F weather. I will reset the throttle position sensor, replace fuel filters, check fuel pressure (probably a weak fuel pump), and fuel pressure regulator this Spring. Hopefully, it's not the computer. It crossed over 140K this week -- Great old Max!

 

Every now and then, I see another 1st Gen Maxima, usually with the rear bumper almost dragging the ground. One of the first things I did when I took over the reins, was replace the rear springs. I used Moog Heavy Duty Springs -- progressive resistence I think. Along with new struts on all fours, the car takes on freeway clover-leaf ramps much faster than new. It has factory 5 1/2X14 in. alloy rims. I wonder how well it would handle with 7X15 in. rims? I wish that affordable cars with RWD independent suspension were still being made.

 

Very good looking car, wow, it looks like its in better shape then my car! I think it looks awsome for an 81 car.

 

There is an 81 across the street from my house. It is about as quiet as my 2000 max.
