88 maxima gxe fuel delivery issue
hi
I'm driving with the vacuum hose disconnected between the intake manifold and the fuel pressure control solenoid. When it's connected the engine hesitates badly and misfires. Disconnected the car at least runs but I feel I am missing some power. Often it feels like it's not picking up. I'm assuming the previous owner's mechanic must have done something to bypass the solenoid without completely disabling the car.
A knowledgeable friend of mine thinks the fuel pressure regulator might somehow be getting feedback from the cruise control system ... but he lives 100 miles away and has yet to actually look at the car so it is just guesswork. As for me, I don't know enough to figure it out myself.
What are some of the possible explanations, and what are the consequences to the power of the car?
thanks
Chris
