Shake, Rattle, And Roll
Hello All!
As some of you may have heard, I had a problem with the
Monroe struts on the back of my 86 wagon.
I since replaced the Monroes with KYBs (I run KYBs on my
95 Silverado and 74 Nova SS), now the rear of the car is
solid and the front struts (which are still the Monroes,
but are less than a year old), feel like they're shot!
I was trying to save some money but in the end... when will
I ever learn?!!
I sent a nasty-gram email to Monroe stating that they lost
a customer for life due to the fact of how unhappy I was
with their product. Much to my surprise, I got an email
back from Monroe stating that they'd reimburse me part of
the labor costs! I told them that I replaced the struts with
KYBs (I got the Monroes warrantied and will be selling them)
and Monroe said that was okay, they'd still reimburse me!
Are the 85/86 Maxs noisy in the suspension area? I "hear"
the suspension working over bumps. It doesn't feel like
there is anything wrong, it's more like the tire "thump"
gets transferred throughout the car...
Also, I had the brakes done a while back but they squeal
from time to time and I've heard a "howl" from the back
brakes after I've released the pedal and start moving.
It happens for a split second then goes away. The brake
noises are intermittant.
The shop (Meinike) used all Bendix brake parts (new rotors
front and rear, pads front and rear, and all new hardware).
I've taken the car back several times but they keep telling
me that all imports have noisy brakes.
I keep meaning to check the brakes myself, but I just haven't
had the time.
Anyone else run into either the brake problem or the noisy
suspension problem?
Thanks!
Scott

Yeah, my brakes make noise from time to time, that normal. Also hearing a thump when going over speed bumps is normal. Things you have too look at for is when you start hearing noises, like a snap or thud when accelerating or stopping, or clicking noises when turning...stuff like that....that would indicate drivetrain/suspension problems. My car is making the snap/thud noises when stop or accelating. I still not sure exact what it is, but it could be tie rod ends, ball joint, sway bar bushings, or maybe my drive axles (which I doubt).
