Fuel pump going out...

I think my fuel pump is on its way out. I just started hearing a loud whine from the rear of the car a couple of days ago. Sounds like when you slowly let the air out of a balloon. Anyway, sometimes the engine bogs down at idle and the revs will drop to 2-300, then go back to normal. Also, sometimes when I'm driving and I try to accelerate, the engine bogs down and won't pick up at all. I ran the codes and all I got back was 55, so obviously the computer doesn't detect anything wrong. I figure that it's probably the fuel pump since the problem is fuel related and I'm not sure what else is at the back of the car that could cause this problem.
If it is the fuel pump, does anyone know the cheapest place to get one. So far I've found them for just under $200 at the local car parts stores. I've seen plenty of aftermarket ones for a 3rd gen max for around $100, but I assume they aren't compatible with ours. If anyone has a used one, that'll be fine too.

Pretty much is a shopping around for a decent price. The other option would to check a salvage yard. When your working on that, you might want to check the condition of the fuel lines etc, make sure there isn't any kinks or anything, or the fuel filter, which if clogged can cause the engine to bog like it's been doing.

Have you checked the fuel pressue?

A "slight" whine is good, means the pump is working...

It's when it gets real noisy or stops making noise.

yeah, you should check the fuel pressure - the fuel pressure regulator. I had the same whine your are referring to on my '86 max and thought it was the pump, turns out it was acually the fuel pressure regulator. good luck!
