timing belt change

timing belt change

i am going to change the tbelt and the manual says,disconect the battery and remove the spark plugs! Can somebody please tell me why i need to remove the plugs to change the tbelt???????

What manual tells you that? I've checked my FSM and it doesn't say to do that....then again, you may need to remove the valve covers to loosen the rockers to allow the timing belt to seat (which from what I hear isn't neccessary) which may require you to remove them.

Only reason I can think of to remove the plugs would be
for making the engine easier to turn over by using a wrench
to line up the timing marks before belt removal.

I'd make sure that there is no debris near the plugs before
removing them if you use this step... don't want anything
falling into the engine!
