thinking about buying the 2nd gen

I need some input since I am considering buying a second maxima in the Maxima family. The seller says the car needs a tune up, according to him, he said it runs rough. It has 114k miles. Do you think I should get timing belt done while getting a tune up? I thought it might really save time while at it. What other problem I should look out for that is susceptible to the 2nd gen

Not bad, though the car is probably due for a timing belt at around 120k. How much are they asking for the car? It probably won't be too bad of a buy, though you want to inspect some stuff, like the exhuast components (especially the manifold studs), what year is this 2nd gen? How's the car history?

It's a 87 SE, in pristine condition inside and out. He's asking 1800 for it. I thought it's a steal since the KBB says it's about 3400 for it. So I might just take it and run....errr.....drive off.

uhh....1800....holy...THATS CHEAP....i'd start worrying...i paid $2000 for mine and its got some paint problems (lots of deep scratches) and the head board needs to be cleaned (thats kinda expected though) but thats it....oh yea and the AC compressor was shot but i replaced that my self but yea make sure EVERYTHING IS WORKING and make sure there arent any screwed up parts of the frame and check the insides of what ever body pannels you can for dents potruding INTO the car....if there are major dents in it and it still looks fine from the out side then they did the stupid bondo thing and just filled the dent with body filler sanded it and painted it and in a few years it'll crack and look like crap gaurenteed

Well, check the car over, but 1800 seems to be average what everyone is asking now a days of a 2nd gen. Since you say it's in prestine condition, you probably won't have any problems, and considering the low mileage, that sounds like a steal to me. Just check it over carefully, and you should be fine. I don't think you have to worry too much about the body, just check the under side for signs of rust. I originally paid $2k for mine also back in 99, with 125k miles on it (got a good deal because it was from family) but these cars are great when they are well taken care of.
