buyin a 87, need your advice

hey guys, I was lookin at a car that i can use for the next few months till i get my other car up an running, and i came across a 87 maxima. I wanted to know what are the reliability issues with this car. What should i look out for, etc.

I came across an 87 with 180k miles on it. It looks decent, drives ok, and i talked the guy down to 500 bucks.....i need a car that wont break down on me causae im prety much broke as of the moment....what do u guys think??

Well for basic back and forth driving, it will work fine. The big things you need to look out for is the exhaust system, a timing belt will probably need to be done soon. Other than that, it should be good for basic transportation.

how can u check the timing belt on these.....also whats the normal compression supposed to be..imma run a compression check

i think...(because i'ver herd it so often) that the compression is 9:1...$500...thats awfully cheap....must be heavily used....oh and watch the voltage meter when you rev it...if it moves alot something alternator wize is screwy...or so i've been told....

I meant in psi....like 190 in each cylinder or something??

For the engine compression, hour engines should be a minimum of 128psi @ 300rpm, standard should be 173psi @300rpm. The diffrential limitation between cylinders is 14psi.
