Cassette player won't release casette

I've got an 86 SE with the stock cassette player / equalizer setup. The other night after fast forwarding the tape got stuck in the player. It won't eject and I can't turn the power off to the radio. I tried to apply some pressure to release it but the player has a death grip on the tape.

Has anyone had this situation and do you know of an easy way to eject the tape without taking the unit out of the car? Looking forward to your replies - thanks for your help.

Dude, it ate the tape. There is so much of the tape there on the wheel, that it is not coming out. Get a new deck and replace the tape. Sorry, I know you didnt want to hear that. Lets just both hope I'm wrong.

I've got the JVC CD/MP3 deck. Its not in the Maxima yet, but I pulled it from the wreckage of my Altima so its ready to go in soon.

A quick update -

I removed the deck from the car and took the top cover off and was able to manually eject the tape. The tape wasn't chewed at all but I'm not going to try this tape again. I'm going to hook it back up this weekend and see what happens.
I just started driving this car as my commuter. I bought it for my wife four years ago and she tired of it and wanted a new car so she's now driving an '03 Altima SE and I've got the Max. This is a fun car for the commute - 120 miles round trip daily. It has a cassette in it so I'm listening to books on tape - good way to pass the commute time.

Thanks for all your constructive suggestions.

If it still doesn't work well, for a quick fix you could run one of those wired tape adaptors in your factory deck. Then plug that into either a Walkman powered off the cig lighter or CD player.
