Is this true?
Is this true?
Ok heres the deal. I just got back from this crappy mechanic shop
called cho's, I wanted them to to cut my rotors because my my car is
really making a sqeaking sound. They told me that it was because my
brake pads are semimetalic and they will only replace them with OEM
Nissan pads. WTF! I told them that the last mechanic didn't cut the
rotors and thats why they are squeaking really loud! Just in case it
was the pads that caused the problem I bought some lifetime warranty
Carquest Global Solution premium plus disc brake pads that have
antisqeaking properties. The *******s refused to fix my car!!! My
question is it true that semimetalic or metalic pads will make the
brakes sqeak? From all I've read here it can't be true. Why would
the a part shop give me pads that were issued for my 87 Max?

OK, all semi-metallic pads are capable of squealing ... unless you feel a pulsation in the pedal when braking, or have a vibration in the front end that smoothes out when you brake, I seriously doubt that it's your rotors. The most likely cause is the pads were not installed with the proper shims and anti-rattle clips...and they likely did not use the anti-vibration "glue" that you can use to prevernt the squeals...
then there are some cheaper pads that will simply squeal, no matter what you do to them.
When I replaced my rotors and pads about 10 months ago, I used Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads, and highly recommend them...they can be a little pricey, but they are virtually no noise, considerably less brake dust, and bite well into the rotors, which less wear due to the carbon makeup.

ceramic pads made for our cars?
If so, who sells them?
Thanks!
