its not the price of the parts that are expensive. Most of the price is all labor. You also gotta realize that these are interference motors and you might of caused damage.

 

How does he know it was the timing belt? I beleive your Maxima is an interference engine, Which means if the belt broke the engine would be beyond repair! The timing belt is about $50 and it takes at least 4 hours, so $370 doesn't sound so bad.

What makes me mad is that mechanics want 4 hours to do a timing belt, which includes taking off and putting back on fan belts. If you want to change the timing belt and the fan belts, mechanics want 8 hours!

If your cooling system needs work (water pump, theromostat, radiator hose) it should be done before the timing belt change because coolant wrecks the belt anyway. I need to get my thermostat changed because I was very cold this winter.
