Well, Last night I was going to my gfs house and as I was pulling out of krystals the small square burger joint. Anyway, as I started to accelerate I hear a snap and some rubber flapping about inside the engine compartment and the engine dies. I was thinking hopefully it would be the driver belts. No, I have suspected its the timing belt. Im so ****ed right now. The good thing is It was at very low rpm so I dont think there is any damage to the engine, thank God. I just need a new timing belt which is money I dont have, grrrrrr!! The thing that gets me is its only been 1 yr and maybe 4 months since I had the cars top end rebuilt at which they did put new belts on drive belts and all. I dont want to go back to them because they ****ed me off with some shotty business they had with me but I dont know what to do. My mom is screaming new car. Im screaming no money. My dad well, Im still waiting for his call. I was going to wait for some stock options to hit this Jan and April before I went and did some work on th car. Plus, I was looking into getting a 95 maxima this summer. Yeah guys its time for an upgrade. I want to just fix the thing since it may just be the timing belt. Last time It was done by itself it was about 200 bucks and it lasted alot longer than 1 year and 4 months. So the car resides in front of my house. I guess this would be a good time to wash it now huh. LOL! Anyway, just needed to vent some.

Dang, that's every VG30 owner's nightmare!
Even at low rpms all it takes is 2-3 revolutions to bend all the valves and damage all the pistons but I don't know if your VG is an interfearance engine... it might be ok. Get an opinion from someone on if they think the valves are ok. My L-series would be toast... I've seen it done before by just putting the timing chain on wrong.

I hope you can slap that back together and limp along untill you get your next Maxima. :-(

Yeah, VG's are interference motors. Usually if the RPM's are low enough the motor, you can get out of this without problems...usually...either way you want to get the motor checked out to see what's going on.

My uncle's belt broke at low rpm and his motor was fine after another belt was installed. The only way to tell would be to install a new belt + tensioner and see if it starts/runs.

Yeah thats what Im going to do.Im going to install a new belt and tensioner and see if it runs. Cross fingers if it does. I dont have the money right now to be shelling out for a newer car. Plus Im not eve done paying on that loan I took out last year in aug to get the top end rebuilt when my tensioner went out.
