aftermarket deck instal

ok for everyone who has put a single DIN CD player in there max maybe you can help me out. I got the CD player from crutchfield....it comes with one bracket for the cd player and one bracket to cover up the hole that used to be the eq.....I am wondering how you guys mounted you CD players...the brackets that come with the deck dont match up to any of the holes that are already in the area....so I was thinking I would use self taping screws and screw it into the top metal piece about 4 inches back when looking at the top of the hole (hole= area where deck and eq used to be....also did you guys use those factory mounting brackets that are on the side of the factory deck and eq? Any help would be great...if no one has any imput I am just going to start poping in self taping screws and see what happens...thanks.

My setup is different, so I ended up making my fabbing a bracket. I'm not sure as to what to do with your setup however. Probably will end up using self tapping screws.

the install kit I had filled the whole area up and there was no plug where the EQ was I think I showed you what mine looked like. But it went in there with the only mod of removing 2 little plastic nipples.

What a Pain!!!....I have put in tons of decks before but none were quite this much of a pain....I had to cut the stock brackets in half...then grind them down to get them to fit in the sleeve that crutchfield gave me...then I had to cut the hell out of the bracket that crutchfield gave me to get it to fit in there...to make a long story short, it is in there and it actually looks alright...came out really well in my opinion for all of the cutting I did, I will post some pics soon...I am working on taking some pics and getting a car domain page together for my 87. P.S. SOmeone sell me some rims!!!

I had to make custom brackets for my setup. I had to use the top of the old stereo(or was it the bottom, i forgot) and i used the bolts that mounted the original stereo, i drilled holes in the side if the top of the old deck, so i could mount the new deck into the bracket, then i could bolt it up to the frame. Surprisingly that worked quite well. I did have to cut out a peice of the top of the old deck for the heatsink on the new deck. I also have the wiring for installing an aftermarket stereo into an 85 to 87.
