Problem on the horizon...

This started to happen about 4 days ago. When I try to start my 88 Maxima it kind of lags when I turn the key for about a second or so, then it starts right up. Kind of like a low rrrrr, rrrrr, then it will turn over. The battery is less than a year old and the voltage is fine.

Could this be a starter or an altenater on its way out?

Real quick, how cold has it been lately in your area? If it has been very cold, that will cause that initial laggy start. All 3 of my cars do that, and it's been pretty cold here (the max, a 97 volvo 960, and a 96 Ranger).

Real cold here in Nashville.

About 14 degs this morning.

I also was remembering that last year when it got cold, I had corrosion built up on the negative ground terminal. I should check that first thing.

Yeah, clean the terminals, etc. Other than that, it's normal for the car do to that for the first startup. I'd be concern if it did that on every startup.
