87, having crazy idle

my 87 SE idles fine when it is cold...but once it gets up to temp and I come to a stop it will fluctuate between 400-1200...when it approaches 400 it almost dies...does anyone know what this could be...the car is also running hot but I have a new radiator on the way....any ideas on the idle thing?....also I put rims on the 87 I will post pics soon.

I emailed you what I thought it could be. I'm thinking either a coil, or a vacuum leak somewhere.

VACUUM LINES!!! I'd check them before I did anything with the coil... I had a crazy idle of about 1500 RPMs and couldn't locate the problem for the life of me, the vacuum lines looked ok.. one day I got all new ones and replaced every last one, it stopped. one hard-to-see line under the intake manifold was cracked..

Yeah I know I need to do that...my idle is still not right after doing the coil and the car is still getting hot after putting a radiator in it....where did you get your vacuum lines? DId you just use some silicone lines? I would like to buy a kit that already fits the car.

I doubt there is a kit to use but I maybe wrong.Your best bet would be to got to the parts store and get a few feet of all the diffrent size lines you need and start from there. One thing I can say from doing this on another car I had is pull one make a new one,and do that till all the lines have been replaced I know a guy that pulled a bunch at once and had one hell of a time getting them back right.

so when doing this I sould replace every line that comes from the vacuum canister? This is what I think you do, but I am not 100% sure...and also...isnt the vacuum canister (when looking from the front of the car in), on the right hand side above the MAF and close to the TB...just want to make sure. Thanks for everyones help.

Well, you should locate all the vacuum lines and replace as neccessary. They all don't come from just the vacuum/resonance chamber. They also come off the intake manifold itself etc.

yeah I just need to go get some silicone hose...the 87 compared to my 98 just looks like a bunch of tangled up wires and hoses...so that is why I am trying to verifiy which hoses to replace....I am not sure what every little hose does.
