Wheels, this question again...

Hey, almost done with the brakes. What a PITA! anyway... I know this question has been asked before, but the answer is usually not very definate. So, can 2nd gen wheels be used on a 1st gen. (not stock ones) I found some American Racing wheels I like and need to know if they will interchange.
Thanks!

Yes, 1st and 2nd gen have the bolt pattern, 4x114.3. However the offsets maybe different, but not too big of a deal.

OK, same bolt pattern, that's good. FWD offset could put the wheel farther inside the wheel well, right?

I think so, but not much...either way, you should be able to bolt up 2nd gen wheels wif you really wanted too.

I think you should just try some if you have a test wheel. The 1st gen is RWD, but the hubs are set out farther than the Z-cars (280ZX); either that or the fenders are just more narrow. Most Z-car wheels don't tuck within the fenders. I have the narrow 14x6 star rims from a 280ZX on my 1st gen and they just barely tuck behind the fender lip. On a Z they've got a good inch of space inside the fender. So, FWD have a different offset to bring the wheel in, but may be a bit too much. Use a narrow wheel, 6 or 6.5 inch if you can or you risk the inside of the rim hitting the coil springs. a thin 1/4 inch spacer ring could be used too. Slip that over the bolts and then put your wheel on.
The 2nd Gen uses the same offset as the 240SX even though the SX is RWD. If the swap works with a 1/4" spacer then you've got a huge selection of aftermarket wheels to choose from.

Oh I just remembered. 1st gen.

My brother had one He ran these wheels:

I know that pic doesn't list the right bolt pattern but this was also 10 years ago

My friend originaly had them on a 83ish Mazda 323. Then I put them on my 70 510. Then my bro ran them on his 810. Fit fine. For a 810, you can go plus 1 with 15" rims. The 280zx turbo came with some damn nice web styled wheels that had a concave design. The later 200sx turbos/non-turbos came with 15x7 wheels that I ran on my 510. You might be able to run the Z31 Z rims also.
