9004 > 9007 headlight conversion
9004 > 9007 headlight conversion
I read about this on an Audi site, where people were putting 9007 bulbs in their Audi 5000's. They normally use 9004 like us. So I tried it out. Two of the three very small locating notches between the grommet and the bulb itself are slightly diffferent, with the top one being the same. I simply got out a pocket knife and removed the two offending tabs from the headlight housing and in went the bulbs. The plug is also exactly the same, the difference being that the ground and lowbeam wires must be switched. Easy enough to do as well. The whole reason I decided to try was that one of my Silverstars burnt out, and if they were going to keep burning out evry few months I neede to find a cheaper alternative. I'm now running Eurolite Fusions, half the cost of the Silverstars. But the biggest difference is how the 9007 bulbs work so much better in our housings! OMG! Instead of two little blobs of light in front of me, I have tons of light on the ground from shoulder to shoulder! This has to be the most worthwhile lighting upgrade you could ever do for our cars! Later, when it gets dark I'll get some pics of my new light spread up for you.

No, the lows and highs are working correctly. And there's no chance of wire burnout or housing damage, the 9007 bulbs are only 10 watts higher than a 9004. The beam pattern is just much better with the axial filament position instead of transverse. The only drawback is that there is a little bit more glare from the headlights now, but so far I've only been highbeamed once out of 2-3 hours of nightime driving. I probably can still aim them down a bit more too. I'm just waiting for darkness to get out my camera for you guys!
Ok, here are a few pics for you.
This first one is of my fogs using regular h1 100w hella bulbs for colour comparison:

Here are the 9007 Eurolites:

Beam pattern on a wall:

Looking at the headlights:

Exposure compensated to give a good comparison between the colour of the headlights versus the stock parking lights:

I'll get a few more to better show how much spread there is in a parking lot or something, the back alley doesn't give much of an idea.
