Manual Swap a Success!
Manual Swap a Success!
Finally...after 1 week and 4 days. (about 1 week of working on it from 10 am to 9 pm) I was able to get this done. The weather was kinda against me in the first days but I can finally say me and my dad did it. We ran into a couple problems.
The transmission mounts were WAY different (strange)
Had to find the correct screws that bolt on the bell housing. (had to dig for them at a junk yard)
The slave cylinder was not good, had to rebuild.
Gears were grinding (because of the bad cylinder)
The exhaust shields had to be hammered and somehow fit back.
The center console (where the hand brake sits) had to be replaced with the manual one)
The bracket that holds the shifter did not fit, had to make a custom one.
Oil was leaking (sorta still is) from the passanger side axle. (will have to replace)
Car would not start ( had to use the neutral start switch and set it to neutral and left it under the hood, veryg good anti theft device
Just set it the switch to gear and the car wont start)
Other than this everything turned out ok.
Thanx to sarin for helping me figure out sum stuff.

Hector, do me a writeup on this, if you can...with my tranny trashed, i may end up going this route, if that 85 sedan doesn't work out...
And this is all IF i get anything out of the city for it...as it sits, i called around, just to have this info to use when fighting the city, and the cheapest I can get out with a good tranny around here is about $1900 to $2500...that included R&R...

Heck Louis, you can get the money from the city to pay for conversion, and have some money left over. Since it's $1900-$2500. You can get everything you need to do the conversion for about $1000, maybe $1200 tops. Do the work yourself and have some money for the family.

If you do do your swap, Id suggest new clutch master cylinder and a new slave cylinder or buy a slavec cylinder rebuild kit. YEah getting the city to pay for it would not be a bad idea. Oh i think the nissan stanza 4 banger with manual tranny has the same shift rods. Mine are identical to the one at the junk yard. I had to use parts from there.
The one I know of with the bent shift rods LOOKS like the trans was rebuilt...but I'm still a little leary of it, as it looks like a driveway rebuild, using blue RTV for sealant instead of normal gaskets...
Nah, the car been sitting flat on the ground for a while now, with no wheels/tires on it, and they use a fork lift to move it around...had the car on skids once to pull a part, and that's when i saw the RTV and the rods...they were VERY obviously hit SEVERAL times by the forks...

an update on the swap... My manual does not have that metal piece that holds the shift support rod in place...this could be a possible explanation of why 2nd gear grinds ALSO it can be bad syncros. If it is..im taking it to a shop. if its alot of money ill swap back to auto and sell ths car. Im tired of it :/ I have been looking into 4th gens. Nice prices here.
