yo
I've got an 88 max GXE(I think) with an auto trany. I was wondering how well a MSD ignition box would work for my car. Also if anyone has done it let me know if you ran into any problems with the installation, or afterwards with the cars performance. Also I was tinkering with the idea of putting in a distributorless Ignition box in there.
THANX!

I don't see why it wouldn't work, but quite honestly, there are better places to spend your money. Adding an MSD ignition is going to add exactly 0hp. They are for engines that are getting substantially more air/fuel than stock, ie: wicked cams, turbo, nitrous etc., so that the mixture will ignite without drowning the spark. The stock ignition is more than adequate for most of us. I would go for an exhaust first, CAI second, 240/Stanza Throttle body third. If you added some cams and a port and polish onto that, then I could see the need to upgrade the ignition.
Thanx for the tips!
The other reason I was looking at the ignition boxes is that after I put my custom exhaust on my car the gas mileage has sucked. It literally has been cut in half, and gas prices suck out here!
The exhaust is 2.25" my car has more pep but the cost to drive it is killing my wallet!
Any suggestions?

the milage is likely due to a need for a good tune.
Also, the ignition system WILL make a difference with a stock VG, but not performance wise...it'll provide a smoother idle, LITTLE better throttle response, and longer plug life...that's really about it...if you use a hotter coil, you can gap the plugs out a little more, providing for better, more complete combustion, also...but that's about it.

your probably right!
I'm not too mechanically inclined, so the thought of doing a timing is troubling, the thought of paying for someone else to do it ... more trobling. The belts I know need to be replaced but I have this stupid do it yourself personality. Are there any suggestions out there from anyone who's done this, eventually Im going to have to.

Thanx again you guys for the suggestions.
I thought maybe the problem was just bad vaccum hoses. I replaced all the bad ones, and my engine is quiter, but i still have horrible gas mileage. I think im going to replace the plugs and wires and fuel pressure regulator, and see if that helps after that its good bye distributor.
