Questions from a Newbie-Swap, throttle body, shocks

Hey everyone I just joined and you guys seem to really know what you're doing. So here's a few things I've been wondering about. I have looked through alotta the other threads too. Anyway, I was reading one of the members talking about a 300zx turbo motor swap and he said it was a serious pain to get everything to fit properly. Is the VG30ET really that hard of a swap?
This may be a stupid question, but if I do the 240 throttle body swap, will that affect my gas mileage? What kind of results can I expect from that?
And finally, my shocks are all worn out so I'm wondering what shocks you would recommend to put in.
Thanks.

yeah the vg30et is a serious pain to do. Only if you are know what u are doing then yeah..also it has alot of down time. As for the intake..im assuming it helps your gas mielage, because it burns gas better. If you do the throttle body swp..make sure you bore out the manifold (remove it to do this)

Other mods can be
under drive pulley
racing clutch (stage 1..manual)
headers
better intake
perf torque converter (automatic)
300zx non turbo ecu swap (burns alot more gas)

its really up to u...u can do almost everything to a car, with the right money.

Cool thanks. I'm on a pretty tight budget for the time being, so i'll prolly do the throttle body. I really want a nice set of shocks though.
Also, while i'm thinking of it, in the FAQ's it says that our cars can fit all nissan rims except the '02 altimas. are they the only ones that don't fit? I looked on nissan's page and they say the SER Spec-V rims are 17x7....does anyone know if they fit?
In the FAQ's it also says that 114.3x4's fit. What units are they????

The SpecV wheels will fit, but will actually be MORE expensive that a set of aftermarket wheels.

The 114.3 X 4 is the bolt-pattern for aftermarket wheels. All Nissans, as well as most Japanese imports, use the size bolt pattern for their 4-lug wheels.

Best idea if you want those wheels. Find them used. There is always at least one set up on EBay with rubber on them for a good price. To buy them new is a very bad idea since the dealer charges way too much for them. Most SE-R V-spec owners eventually upgrade anyway.

If you switch the T/B don't you have to get the Intake Plenum(Black plastic connecting to T/B) from the stanza?

Where would you get one?

Check your local wrecking yards or www.car-part.com. All you need is the throttle body, make sure that if your car is auto, that the TB you get matches, and also make sure you get a TB that was equipped for cruise control...or you'll be in a world of hurt trying to swap over your linkage and such from the old TB...

And you should remove the upper intake, to open up the port just a little, to match the large TB. This is the safest way, to avoid getting metal shavings in your engine...

I should really read all of a thread. I missed this browsing through earlier.

Lemme straighten things out. Quite honestly a VG30ET swap is not really that hard. What makes people think it's hard is because of the time it takes. IF you want to know what's involved in a turbo install, look at KALSC project in the stickies. He's done it. I'm not saying it's so easy you can do it in a weekend, it will take some time, but the whole concepts is pretty easy, swap all the neccessary parts and the motor. Granted, there is some fabrication needed, but if your handy with that, that shouldn't be a problem. Also, remember, do your homework before you even think about doing this. Understand how boost works and be aware of what your doing. It will save you a lot of headache.
