Nissan Maxima 87 sedan engine wont start
Hi guys,
I got problem with nissan maxima 87. Engine stopped while driving on the interstate while driving. Then it would not start. I have new started, alternator and battery. I turn the key, engine turns, but wont start. I have checked fuel pump- it works, pumps the gas each time i turn the engine. I checked the timing belt- its not broken.
I went and got new spark plugs and wires. It would not start, but from several attempts it did start and worked for like a min and then suddenly shut off.
I went and got new distributor cap and a rotor, replaced them, but the car would do same thing, engine turns but doesnt catching up. I went and got an ignition coil, replaced - same problem. Only started it once from multiple attempts, but after few mins engine would shut off.
I dont really know, what's the best way to check if there's a spark coming from the ignition coil. Afraid to damage any computer blocks.
What could be the problem? Appreciate any help.

Next thoughts are the Crank Angle Sensor. It's in the distributor cap...it's usually easier just to replace the entire distributor. Are you able to pull up any codes at all on the ECU? I had the same problem, and it turned out to be that. That maybe another place to look. If the CAS is bad, often the car will not run because it the ECU uses the CAS to determine the timing pulse it sends to the ignition coil. So take a look there.

so u dont have to replace the distrebuter u can check the 1 u have
with a LOGIC PROBE by cheking the crank signal. but sory i dont quit remember wich wier is the 1 that send the signal to the pcm.

Yeah, if you have a FSM, it will tell you what pins to test for. As arsonist63086 said, you don't neccessarily have to replace the distributor, but when I did mine, I just replaced the distributor anyway because often it's hard to find just the CAS itself. Either way, from the sounds of it, by the time you are done, your car is going to have pretty much a new ignition system!
