How can you tell the diff. btw the 88's?

Hey,
Other than looking at the tag on the side of the door....is their any other way to tell the difference between the two 88 Maximas. Since they had a model split...pre-August and post-August...or was it September? I saw a mecanic look at the tail light code to figure it out??

Help!

are you talking about a GXE or an SE? If so all that info is in the sticky...and if you are talking about your manufactures date then yes that is on your door jam

Pic of what?...Their was a split mid year for the 88 maxima...so when you go to purchase parts they ask you which model do you have pre-split or post split? Other than checking on the door, is their any other way to identify if the vehicle was manufactured before the split or after? You mentioned the VIN...OK what am I looking for on the VIN to indicate what I am looking for?

The VIN will indicate the model, but I dont think you can get the production date from it. I am confused why you cannot open the door a just look

I never heard of this. I thought there was a split for the 1987 model year due to the import restrictions at the time. The only differences should be with body, since the 88 was very similiar to the 85, 86 and 87 Maximas.

The tag on the door is damaged...cannot make out anything. Apparently, their are differences other than the body.

Does the tag on the firewall with VIN and engine code etc. say anything about the manuf. date? (just a guess, I dont know)
