Exhaust size? First gen

Does anyone know what size exhaust we have on the first gens? I just purchased an L28ET with a T-5 tranny for my 81 wagon and I now need to figure out how it's going to fit. It looks like I have a 3" or 2.5" out of the turbo on the engine but my car is a few states away so I can't exactly go measure. Anyone know the exact size of the exhaust on my Max, the size of the exhaust on the 82 280zxt, or the average cost to get a custom cat-back made?

Thanks
Clay

Swap tips for First Gen

If anyone has done any swaps on the first gens in general, could you give me some heads up on anything?? I'm kinda stepping into this blindly and could use some insight.

I believe the Max has a 1.75" pipe. The turbo should run 2.5 or 3. Just have a shop make the pipe all the way back; not just a catback. Only $200 or less.

The oil pan is the major part that won't fit. The steering rack is different or something under the engine is. The L28ET is rear sump. The L24 is front sump. The block's pickup tube is slightly different too.

Do you think I could just switch over my oil pickup and pan from my l24? I assume that would work. Thanks for your info!

You will also have a conflict between the steering shaft and the down pipe of the turbo, You must cut it about 2-3 inches (measure twice and cut once) shorter and weld it back together to make it clear the knuckle, I know this 'cause I had to do it when I did a turbo upgrade on my LD28 using the same parts off a turbo Z.

As far as the oil pan is concerned, just use the one on the 2.4 with the oil pick up tube and that should do it for you.

Hope this helps
