intake manifold disassembly
intake manifold disassembly
Has anyone taken their intake manifold apart on their second gen? I am going to read over my FSM tonight but I was hoping you guys could comment on how difficult it is, and any helpful tips. The reason I ask is because I am going to put a new intake plenum on my car and I am just wondering if its worth the extra trouble of pulling every thing else and replacing the other intake manifold gaskets.....any input would be great. Thanks.

yeah I agree, but I am asking how hard it is to get to where all the other gaskets are for the intake manifold. I can take the plenum off but I need to know how much is involved once that is off. The plenum is just held down by five bolts, then it has all of the AAV/IAC/EGR on the back of it. My question is what is involved after the plenum is off?
oh well the only one that might give you a little bit of trouble is the EGR tube. That thing is a PITA to remove and put back. The AAV is just two bolts and a tube, its not that bad just make sure you don't drop those screws.
hahahahha....I think we are having a misunderstanding, I know how to take everything off up top. I am wondering what to do after that is done what needs to be done to pull of the rest of the intake manifold. So yes I am asking about anywhere that would have a gasket, so I am guessing that would include the lower IM as well.
I have taken my EGR off several times now and I agree it is a PITA. The plenum that I bought has the EGR nut still on there because the guy I bought it from could not get it off so he cut the tube with a saw. I will be soaking this nut in PB blaster then hitting it with the impact gun.

well I finally got around to swaping manifolds yesterday.....I bought another one because one of my AAV screw holes was stripped. After everything is removed all the coolant lines/egr/everything on the back side of the manifold, all you have to do is take the Five hex head bolts out of the manifold. Once this was done I took off all of the gadgets and cleaned them, I also cleaned the runner tracks with Air Intake cleaner. I got some copper gasket stuff and put a line of that stuff around the IM before I put it back together. While I had the manifold off I had boared out the neck to match the Stanza TB....so I installed the Stanza TB....this is where things got to be a pain. The Stanza TB has different fittings for the coolant lines...and there is no way that I could hook them back up stock....so I hooked up a coolant bypass rather than running the coolant thru the TB, I just hooked the lines together. After I got this figured out (no hard but tight on space) I realized I could not get my brake booster line back on because it was so brittle and had to cut it to take it off....so I had no brakes, until I bought a new section of hose for it ( I also put on new roters and pads this same day so I thought I screwed something up when I did not have brakes).....anyway sorry for rambling, just wanted to let you guys know I did this and I am not ready to comment on the feeling of the car yet, because I still have to get the idle set properly, but so far so good.
