ok i was told that the fuel system on the 87 maxima was recalled, so i called up the local dealer and they say since the recall was over ten yrs ago they cant help me, has anyone gotten this recall done past the ten yr mark?

Had mine done about 3 months ago, no problems at all. New injectors, rails , fuel filter and hoses. They had the car about 3 days, since they had to order the parts. Didn't cost me a penny.

Yeah, either try another dealership, or try contacting Nissan directly...

Recall addresses leaky injectors - smell of gas, especially in cold weather.

you can ask the dealer and they can check on your VIN number, or you can call 1-800-NISSAN1 and they can check by using your VIN number as well

what if you have had your motor replaced. is there any way to tell if it had been done on the new motor?

One way you can usually tell is to look at the injector harness. Not all, but the majority of the recalls has fuel injector subharness kits installed. This kit used the middle injector harness wires only and capped off the front and rear injectors on each side. This was possible as each bank of injectors fires at the same time. The new subharnesses were also identified by yellow tape stripes.

the only thing i rember opf the top end fuel system i rember are the hoses leading from the fuel rail to the injectors them selves were in almost brandnew condition with yellow fastners....but that does not say much because the cylinderwalls looked the same aswell as a bunch on the parts

My 86 Maxima seems to have a problem with the fuel intake system (I think).

Everytime I get out of the car I smell gas, and it runs pretty choppy when I'm not giving it gas, just simply going in reverse or drifting.

By any chance could the recall effect the 86 as well as the 87?

My 86 has 106,000 miles, and was sitting for 4 years. (Just a little FYI)

ok one thing i noticed about my car is that the gas cap is harldy ever put on correctly...which is freaking dumb, they dont know how to screw a gas cap on at a gas station?

oh and for those of you who dont know, i do know how to put a gas cap on how ever in oregon its the law (es la ley or how ever) that gas attendants pump the gass and not the drivers under some circumstances you can pump it your self (like a custom or classic)....how ever any one who applies to be a gas attendant only needs a highschool diploma and THATS IT...which in it self is even more dumb

lol, what else would someone who pumps your gas need to major in? You think some guy with a GED in networking would pump gas, or better yet someone with a bachleors degree in engineering decide he wants to become a slave to his occupation?

I have to diagree with you there, although it seems like stupid people are breeding, anything over a high school deploma would never slump to the level of pumping your gas for you. It's just wrong.

i had an 85 and an 87 and had both serviced. there was a recall due to the changing chemical components in fuel and how they were eating the seals in the injectors. my 85 caught on fire. lots of fun. luckily i was parked in front of a dry cleaner and was able to borrow their fire extinguisher before the whole car burned. nissan should still honor the recall. my 87 was done in '96. good luck

Can anyone direct me to an area that may help me with a stumble problem? I have an 86 and have swapped out the maf ,the head temp sensor new plugs wires and cap. It starts, and runs fair, but if you try to open the throttle fast it dies. If you feather it above 1500 then it will rev with no problem. I have had several dealers look at it and no help. Its too nice to junk out at this point .( had that recall done) cost nissan about 1000$ I was told. They have to stand behind it for life I was also told. I am new to this so be kind with me, I'm an old man. HAHA

Well Mike, I'm looking at apparently the same problem as you with my 86, by any chance would yours happen to be the luxury addition with the digi-dash also?

Anyway, I'm calling Nissan today to check my vin ::crosses fingers::

Just called... they say there are no "open recalls" for my vehicle... Personally I think they just went on the nissan website and looked, because I've done that already, is this worth calling Nissan and getting moody?

My 87, was made in 86' and i recently brought it up to 7500ft from 1000ft, and its now having all the aformentioned issues. I called nissan and they cannot pull up my vin at all...... they say its not in their system. i am not the original owner, does that make a difference?

you being the original owner has no bearing on whether or not they do the recall, if it has not been done then they have to do it if your car qualifies for the recall.
