V1 Radar Detector Custom Install in 1st Gen ...

Hay Guys,

I recently bought a V1 "Radar Locator" (which work very well by the way) and have been working on a custom install for my 1st Gen. I am going to tear apart one of their remote displays and do my own lighting behind the "Warning" display. I have it pretty well figured out, but I want some thoughts / feedback. I am going to remove the "sensor" warning, and move the 4 remaining lights all the way to the right. The space on the left will be for the V1 info. The "LASER, X, K, and Ka" lettering will be slightly wider for easier viewing. The following pictures were done on my laptop to be life size on a 14" 1024x768 monitor. If you are unfamiliar with the 1st gen dash, I circled the location of the "Warning" display here:

Questions:
Should the icon on the left just have the "V1" logo, just the car, or the "V1" logo under the car?

I suppose the other question is if the "radar lines" should light up only when radar is detected (as shown) or all the time?

Here is the display with the 3 different left icons... with everything lit up as when the car is first turned on:

The following is what it would look like when "listening" in "A" mode with no other warnings:

The next two images are samples of radar warnings:
One X and one Ka detected to the front and side:

Laser detected to the front:

I am interested to know what you guys think, and if you have anything you'd change? I am going to screen the display, so I can modify anything and then print it for this display. Does it seem reasonable? Easy to read? Keep in mind that there will actually be lights behind the display so each piece will seem just a little bigger / thicker than it shows (the laser indicator will not seem so thin). The only thing that is fixed is the 7-segment display. The arrows are just copied from the original unit. The lettering, laser picture, bargraph, and far left icon are just what I happend to draw.

Thanks for your input,
Chris

They all look pretty awesome to me. The stock look plus stealthness is a great idea.

I think any of them would be tight.
