hey, I remember this nuthouse...

yeah so it's been about 7 months since I've visited the org. apparently not much has changed. I don't actually own a maxima any more, but I've been a member for about 3 years now. still carting along in my two cars, a 1994 nissan sentra 5-speed XE w/151,000 miles, and a 1994 nissan sentra limited edition automatic w/218,000 miles. both are identical twins.

but if all goes well, I hope to be acquiring turboast's 87 maxima, then I'll be an eligible member of the org again.

did your first one break a timing belt and bend a few valves right before you went off on assignment or something?

since then we've had an epidemic of broken timing belts

If you have no records to indicate when it was last changed, I would assume it wasn't done, and have it changed right away. If it snaps, kiss your engine good-bye!

exactly....put it this way, mine hadnt been changed ONCE and it had gone 155,000 miles and the belt didnt break, the teeth of the belt came off....a belt has to be hella old to do this....

also i was lucky that i only bent 7 valves and didnt cause any other damage

I have papers from the previous owner on mine as well. I checked that out one time. The Passenger side Keyless entry broke, she paid alittle over 800 bucks for a new pad and everything. Thats when I realized the lock button was good enough for me on both sides. Paying that much for one, imagine both sides.

Yes, it would seem that I caught a serious and perhaps debilitating case of fourth-gen fever. I've kinda had it with my car anyway, I just can't keep up with all it takes to keep an almost 20 year old car drivable.

At work today some one brought in a 99 SE, black w/ black leather interior. He was getting new tires. I got to drive a bit around the parking lot. All I have to say, is oh-my-freakin-gosh that car is sweet.

Hopefully Blackmaxx and I can get something worked out.

P.S. Dan, I got called into work Sunday, and didn't get a chance to check her out over the weekend. Keep ya posted, though.
