Tailgate support struts?

Does anyony have information as to the part availability of the support struts for an '84 maxima wagon? The Nissan part # is: 90450w2800, and the dealer wants $113.00 for 1Ea. NOTTTTT!!!!! There must be a sutable replacement, perhaps with a little adjusting, that can be made to fit??? Earl

Call around to a couple of your local parts stores and tell them what you want, not the nissan part number, and they may be able to help you.

I don't call them shocks, as they support the weight of the opened hatch!

I've gone that route, and can come up with numbers to replace them on an '85, but not an '84, and can't believe there's much difference between the body's of the two years???? Earl

umm isnt 84/85 the 1st 2nd getn switch?

theres a company that makes all sorts of sizes and such for cars for when these wear out, you can usually find them in part stores. the shucks near me (same as a checker/kreger) hasthem and a book to look them up....alli would do is go down find a place that has em and have some one help you measure them (because therye measured a funny way) and see what kinda of mount they have on each end so it saves you some hassle

What happened to the ones on your wagon now? Do they work?
I replaced my rear hatch earlier this year with a hatch from an '83 and I may have saved the lift supports from the 84. They work but they're from the original and you might want to paint them as they have some rust on them.
I am not at home now but when I get there I'll check to see if I saved them and if I did you're welcome to them for the cost of shipping.

I made it back home and I have the lift supports from the 84.
Send me a PM and I can email the pictures to you in JPEG format if you are
interested in them.

Vidioman, I like the offer, but do you know if they held up the lid on the "84???
Mine work in temps over 60 degrees f. , but anything cooler they don't. Any guess as to the shipping?? Earl

The hatch on the 84 had a broken window and a dent in the back. I got an 83 hatch with the defroster window and no dent. When I replaced the 84 I took everything off the 84 hatch that I could before I placed it on the curb. It didn't make it to the curb, a guy passing by with a pickup truck saw me at the end of my driveway, asked for it and put in the back of his truck.

The lift supports held up the 84 hatch while I took the wiring out. This was back in February/March in Cleveland so it will definitely hold it below 60 degrees!

I'll have to check on the cost of shipping. I use UPS with PayPal. If you want it shipped with another carrier, let me know and I will check their rates.

Thanks Earl.

I resent the email, I mistakenly added a mailto in front of your email address and I received a failed delivery notification to my email inbox.

I'll try to ship them out on Saturday.

Stay Blessed,

Allen
