Wheel size for 84 rwd maxima
Can anyone tell me what size wheels would fit on my max. I want to know the biggest size that will fit. I also want to know what size i'd have to get so they go right to the fenders. Would i need spacers or?

I'm looking to buy a set of 15" or 16" wheels that will fit well and look nice on my 82 Maxima sedan. Anybody know where any place I could find them, excluding Ebay? The 14" factory aluminum wheels are getting old, dirty, and are just not making the car look good at all. Let me know if you have any for sale and thanks.

Accord wheels on a datsun
Accord wheels do fit the 1st gen maxima. I have a Datsun 510 with 83 front struts, rotors and calipers. I had to use 1/8 inch spacers I made.I put one on the back of my 82 Maxima and the rims fit but they sit in to far. The rims fit on the front with a spacer and studs off the back of a 240Z. The rears would need 1/2 inch spacers and longer studs to look good.

The stock Maxima aluminum wheel is 14x5.5 w/ 36mm offset... and it sits pretty far under the car. The stock bolt pattern is 4x4.5" (4x114.3mm).
The wheels I'm currently using as winter rims are from an '85 200SX Turbo. They are 15x6 w/ 32mm offset and look pretty good with stock fenders.
Stock 280ZXT wheels (swastica style) look quite good on the car, and are 15x6 w/ 12mm offset (they sit 20mm further out than the 200SX rims I have)... HOWEVER, with a good tire size (205x60R15) you should have to roll your fenders slightly to prevent rubbing.
My summer rims are 16x7 in the front and 16x8 in the back both w/ 24mm offset (sit 8mm further out than my 200SX rims). The fronts have 215x50R16 Avon Tech M500 tires and fit well without fender modification. The rears have 245x45R16 Avon Tech M500 tires and I had to roll the fender until the lip was completely flat, and then bulge out a little bit. I then had to hammer up in the wheel well a little to prevent any rubbing. I did not have to do any further modification to get these wheels to fit. The wheels are not currently on my car since it is winter, but if I remember correctly, my front tires are within about 3/16" of my strut.
I check for rubbing by removing the spring from the strut, and running up the full suspension travel with a jack while rotating the tire.
Standard 17" FWD rims seem to come in 17x7 ET40mm. Which would indicate to me that with a 16mm spacer, 205x45R17 tires (same as stock tire height, no speedo problems) would fit very well up front, and might need some slight rolling in the back (but might still be good). You might need to install longer studs to put a 16mm spacer on the car.
If I were to do it again (and I had not found my current BBS wheels), I would get a set of 16x7 Panasports w/ 22mm offset or so, and run 225x50R16 tires all around.
Good luck - Chris
ps - as soon as I get my act together, I'm going to start renting my fender roller / heat gun through my Gray's Garage site.

Chris, great info. Taught me a lot about rim choices and sizes. I'd like to get a set of 15" or 16" wheels that don't require the need to run spacers. There was a set of factory wheels for a 1981 Nissan 200SX on Ebay a few days ago I really liked and wanted to buy. The bidding got too high for what I wanted to pay though. They measured the same size as the 81-84 Maxima aluminum wheels too (14x5.5). If anyone does have 4 wheels for sale or will down the road that are 15" or 16" in size I could be very well interested. Just let me know and thanks.

Mike - post some pictures!!!!!
Diesel - this is not the end-all be-all... but it is an excellent reference:

You can find lots of good Nissan wheel size info there to figure out compatibility. I will be selling my 200SX set in a couple months after I get my summer rims on.

Picture post.
Hi Gray.
I can post some pitures of the car but the motor is nothing to see right now.
I had to pull the head because the guy I bought the motor from had a shop do the head and did not do the cam and rocker geometry. "CRAP". New cam , new rockers and some shop work.
