I just received my front strut tower bar (for an altima) for my max. I got the brackets to fit on the front shock screws. Now my problem is the clearance that it has. It is not able to clear the EGR. It just needs like 1-2 inches max to clear it. Do you guys have any idea how I can make it clear. BTW the strut bar seems pretty stiff, so I don't want to cut it or bend it at all, any ideas?

 

well what i did was wedge a chisel under the installed bracket and lifted it until it fit...

 

on the 85 and 86's they havea different EGR valve than the 87-88's so that is the only clearance issue for you all. You may want to switch egr valves from an 87 or 88, or dind something that can lift the strut bar up and away from the egr valve to clear it.

 

I have the same type of strut bar, exactly the same except for the bracket. Wouldn't that (the chisel) bend the bracket, or damage part of my cars body? can't I just weld some more metal to the part of the bracket that it attaches to in order to make that part taller? In other words, some way that will not affect how the strutbar effectively works(so it will keep its toughness) and not weaken its structure?

 

How about putting some washers on it?

where did you get it from? I really want want one. Maybe i'll try to fabricate one . first time for everything.

 

It is actually made by a company named aspec at www.aspecproducts.com.It is a front strut bar for a 93-97 nissan altima. I got it on ebay for about $24 shipped. It is hit and miss with E-bay, But I got lucky and got a pretty stiff bar. Just need to find an effective way of putting it on.
