Still Have Engine Whine

I've got a engine whine that I can't locate. I've been all over the engine with a s***hescope and still can find it, but sound like it is coming from under the t-belt cover. It happens in all trans positions, at any temp and increases with engine speed. I have removed all the accessory belts to see if was the water pump, ps, alternater, idler pulleys etc. Oil pressure looks to be ok at the spec'd rpms. I then replaced the timing belt and tensioner pulley. I found the dealer installed the timing belt too tight and I thought I found the problem. I checked the t-belt covers for signs of rubbing. Still no luck. Anyone have a oil pump go out or have a bad torque converter? Any other ideas?

TIA

The engine will have a certain amount of whine from the timing belt. The version in these cars aren't quiet at all. I ran my car with the cover off and it sounded like it was supercharged.

If you got similar whine it sounds like it could a characteristic of this engine. I hope so....the car runs great otherwise. But, I would have expected it to happen right away, rather than 1000 miles after the dealer t-belt job. I changed the brand of t-belt when I did the job to see if that made a difference... same. FWIW, there is also a factory TSB on T-belt whine which says to adjust the belt tension to the lower end of the range of 15 mm deflection between the cams.

Have you checked the power st. fluis. The pump has a annoying whine to it. My lines have a small leak and the whine gets progresively louder as the fluid gets lower. It never really goes away, even when full. Pour a little in to see

I agree all VG cars have an annoying whine with faulty Power stering units even my old Z had that whine, If it turns out not to be your power steering then Its the Alt.

Yes the ps pump was checked, along with all the belt driven accessories by removing all the accessory belts. So the alt, ps pump, water pump, ac comp and all idlers were all disconnected from the engine. I checked the noise source again and it seems to be coming from somewhere near right cylinder head (closest to firewall) maybe near the cam shaft pulley and block. The only things I can think of off the top of my head are a broken head bolt (there is a factory TSB on this) and a leaking/broken oil seal. These are plain bearings at the cam, so no whine should come from there. I haven't ever heard of a leaking oil seal making noise, but maybe the internal spring in the seal broke and is rubbing the cam. Maybe I'll pull the rocker cover first.
