I just wanted to post an update on the project car my friends and I have been working on this summer. I posted a link last summer about our plans but we didn't really get far because of college. The car's an 87 Maxima with about 180000 miles on it that we picked up last year for real cheap. This summer we've made really good progress. We started the summer in the mid 17s and our best timeslip was this past week.

RT - .321
60' - 2.191
330' - 6.253
1/8mph - 71.51
1/8 ET - 9.672
1000' - 12.644
1/4mph - 89.74
1/4 ET - 15.155

The only real mods are:

Stripped interior - dash, carpet, excess wiring, sound deadening, everything
Removed rear bumper and excess trim, lights, rear brakes, sway bars, anything at all excess.
Removed most emissions systems
Homemade intake made from flexible heater duct and no air filter
Removed exhaust from flexpipe back
AC compressor removed and belt routed to eliminate power steering
Timing is set at about 23 degrees advanced
93 octane
~22psi in front tires

The car feels really good, launches hard and pulls strong all the way to redline. It's really hard to believe it's got 18xxxx miles on it. It's a little rough to steer with no power steering or sway bars, but it's fine at the drag strip. So far we're into this car for about 500 bucks. And that includes the cost of the car. Next summer we start with the turbo setup, we never got to it this year. So we'll see what we can do with that. Here's some pictures of it. Sorry for the long post and just post up any questions if there are any.

Now that's stripped. Very impressive, you're at par, maybe a little above stock 5spd 4th gens now!

Any engine shots?

Here's some engine shots for the person who wanted them. Try not to laugh too hard.

Ghetto intake. Made with 3" flexible heater hose and duct tape.

holy crap, i guess it shows you how tough these things are, i missed this thread, your engine bay is a little crusty how ever considering for $500 and you have a 15 seccond car just by running higher octane and adjusting the timing....wow

crusty engine bay but it doesent always have to be pretty to go fast.

you should see if you can find some decent aluminum wheels on craigs list or something (if your doin it on the cheap) that'll drop your weight alot mabe get to 14.9?

Yeah we've got a turbo setup to put on so while we do that we'll clean up the engine bay and make it look a little better. Just haven't been too concerned about it since it runs perfectly. As for the wheels, we're gonna try and get some 14" steel wheels from a junkyard or something. Not ideal, but they're 8-10 pounds lighter than the stockers. We tried rims from a '94 Accord but they didn't fit, so we'll have to find something else.
