Power Steering Removal

Power Steering Removal
I was just curious if anyone knew the best way to remove the power steering in the 2nd gen. We've got the belt removed off our race car which did what we were looking to do in terms of reducing the drag on the engine, but we didn't do anything else to the pump or anything and it steers like a pig since it's trying to fight the pump. I know some systems you can just pull all the power steering stuff including the pump and fluid and it'll work fine and others you need to keep the rack full of fluid for it to work properly. At least I think those are the options, but I could be completely wrong. I can't climb under there and look as the car is in MA and i'm in VA for college, so I'd appreciate it if anyone knew.

Yeah it is, you can see the thread below. Thread title is 15.155 @ xxx. It's trailered to the strip and never sees the street. I should have clarified that because i realize it's stupid to take it off a car driven on the street and I never would if it weren't a drag car.

well you still need some steering, keep the fluid in it and connect the hoses to the oppisite ends of the rack if you know what i mean and give it a shot, i dont think it'll work very well if you drain every thing and leave it. a drag car at 15 almost 14 a 1/4 that would be hella dangerous so try it out before you get to wild with it.
if the pump is good i would pull it and try and sell it on here
i am going go ahve to say try this at your own risk of course because i havent got any experence with racing one of these but all the drained racks i have delt with dont track well

That's pretty much what I figured and I know exactly what you mean. Seems like that's how it usually has to be done. The pump is perfectly fine so I'll try to sell it on here when I get around to taking it off. Thanks for the advice.
