New antenna. Power or Regular?

New antenna. Power or Regular?
My power antenna is toast, actually the mast is. The motor still works.
I could care less about having an actual power antenna. Winter in Michigan can get kind of strange, and that's one more mechanical thing for the snow and ice to destroy. Can I just put a regular mast in there and tape everything electrical off? Or should I just buy a cheap replacement power unit and do it that way.
thanks again.

I would just get a new cheap mast from ebay and still let the power antenna function. Since your wagon is really clean, I would try to keep everything in working order including the antenna. If you ever decide to show it, it'd be nice.

If I could even find a 2nd gen in any yard within 100 miles, I'm sure it would be utterly destroyed. It's rare to find any 20 year old car in this part of the nation that the weather hasn't destroyed first. SALT. I can't even remember the last time I saw a 2nd gen on the road. I bet it's been over a year.
Aside from the fact that imports were never exactly popular in michigan, especially in the 80's.

Got the antenna in. Had to pull the power unit to get out part of the old one. Took less than an hour.
Put my stereo in the same day. I ordered a harness off of eBay. I also ordered a mounting kit, that came with a free harness. Not the easiest car I've ever put a stereo into, but not the hardest either
I soldered the harness on to my pioneer harness, went to put it in and discovered that it was a female harness. Very pissed off. Luckily the freebie was a male, so I spent a few more minutes soldering and was all done.
So under an hour on the antenna, and about 2 hours on the stereo. The stock unit really blew.
