'87 AC Compressor
My '87 compressor is locked up. I have seen re-manufactured compressors on Ebay for $50 dollars "buy it now". Then I see other web sites that specialize in AC products selling remanufactured for around $300. That's a big price difference! Does anybody recomend a brand or have any experiences to share? How hard is it to replace the compressor? It's right there on top and in front, so it doesn't look too bad but are there any hidden "gotcha's"?

I never got a response, so I figure I am the first to travel down this road. I bought a re manufactured off Ebay for $75 plus $15 shipping. The installation took about 4 hours, and everything was straight forward. 2 issues were the o-rings and the high side connector. The only o-rings Autozone had were round, the o-rings I took off the original compressor were beveled. I ended up using the original o-rings because they looked good and were still plyable. The high side conector originally had nuts that tightened down on male threads from the compressor. I just went and bought 1 inch bolts and kind of reversed what they had originally. I will post later if I am still blowing cool. Right now, I have cold air.....but leaks can happen.....hope not!

Well, that didn't last long. I was blowing warm air by the time I got home yesterday. I guess I need to locate some beveled o-rings. I hate dealing with AC systems. It never seems to seal up perfectly like it does from the factory new!
