Also the front triangulated suspension bar brackets hit so we had to pull them off. Going to make some new one with some tubing and heims.

Motor mounts done.

Passenger side

Driver side

Dropped the trans down a little bit with washers for now. Going to make up some nice spacers for it though.

Fits perfect. There is about 1/2 a inch between oil pan and crossmember and about 1/4 inch between intake and hood.

Nice! Simple and clean

BTW - just curious - are you a fabricator/shop owner? I saw you posted in the 3rd gen turbo build thread too and I see lifts/professional equipment/etc. Are you building both these cars?

are you going to rebuild the vh? what year q did the motor come out of? being a g50 owner i'm pretty familiar with the quirks of this engine. 90-93 have a timing chain guide issue which was later revised (plastic to metal back), 94-96 were metal from the factory. if you got one of the earlier engines you need to address that asap. injectors on these cars are touchy also. i replaced all 8 of mine when i bought the car (i think 6 were failed/failing). these issues also require removing the im, under which you will find ~30 brittle, aged hoses that need to be replaced (to the tune of $1k). the injector/knock sensor harnesses also suffer from aging. i put about $3500 worth of parts into my motor to get it right.

this is a great swap though, just not a super budget one. the motor is strong and the manual tranny really livens it up from what i've heard. a lot of new g50 q45 owners give up pretty quickly when they figure out the cost of repair/maintenance. good luck!

*edit - didn't see the pic of the donor car. 94-96 makes life easier.

Motor mounts look good!
Nice job.

What are you going to do for the rear end? What rear end is in the car?

I wouldn't mind building a 1G with a VH.

Are you serious? 1,000 for the hoses seems absolutlely ridiculous. How is that possible? Did you have a shop do the labor or something?

Took some real effort to restrain myself from responding directly to some of the posts in this thread. I'll just give a blanket statement; to avoid sounding like a complete moron, at least know what you're talking about before commenting on something.

Nice build OP. Interesting engine choice given the competition, regardless of brand names.

So much stupid **** in this thread.

Chrome isnt allowed to talk about engine swaps anymore because he likes the RB motors more than ls1s but doesnt even know whats good about them..

Love the Ls1 FB. WOuld like to hear more about the headers you used and any mods to the oil pan. As you can see from my sig I am also a fan of ls swaps. My car ran those numbers with the stock ls1 just headers back exhaust and an intake.

Now its cammed and if you do the cooling system right you'll be fine. My car has idled through boston traffic for hours in high 90s temps and high humidity, and then last summer I raced it extensivly in autox and HPDEs, both of which are harder than anything the car would run into on the street and the car never over heated.

yes but this man does not do anything cheap. it either has to be OEM or name brand.

but you could have used a boosted rb26, 2jz, or rotary and had more weight and crap for power below 5k rpms while paying far more to make the same amount of power and still be slower. The crappy LS1 power band giving you instant on demand torque from idle to redline is for domestic douche bags who don't know about 10k RPM ownage from laggy boosted spoon engines with close ratio gears. You're such a disgrace with your reliable, light weight, high power, and inexpensive engine! Blind brand loyalty and stereotyping for the win!!!!!

perhaps, but i honestly didn't mind coughing up the cash. i did my research before buying, bought appropriately, and was prepared for the cost after purchase. i paid $900 for the car and put $6k in the motor before i drove it more than a couple blocks (.5 parts, .5 labor... no facilities at the time). the q/president was a project that i wanted to do at any cost and my only regret is i didn't do more.

In spite of the shortcomings of the early VH45 I love the fact that this swap seems pretty simple. The OP has come up with a winning combination for fun with minimal cost and effort.

Having built 3 race cars and being the owner of an RB26DETT powered 240Z, an RB25DET powered "Time Attack" 240Z, an LD28T powered 240Z, a triple Mikuni blow-through turbo powered L31 280ZX, an '82 Diesel Maxima that's being converted to L28ET power and having been involved in LS transplants in RX7's, Z cars and a myriad of muscle cars, having something interesting, ingenuous and simple is a thing of beauty in my mind.

Subscribed and looking for updates.

I think he wants a nissan motor in the nissan car.

Stop forcing the LS-X down everybody's throat.

I like my old LS-1 but it was a 427 in my 1969 ss427 impala........not sure why chevy decided to confuse people with the recycling of well known engine names.

Maybe I should force the ford mod motor on anyone who considers an engine swap since I'm wrenching the current standing mile record holding car.

It has a mod motor in it but we also do twin turbo Z06 vettes so I'm a fan of all motors.

Ranting here but it is tiring to see.....rotaries in non-mazdas, ford and gm v8 in foreign cars, and the sr20det in a 240sx.

Come on by and see us....and a whole bunch of hotties and badass cars.

Ok, now we need pics AND video!

Reminds me when I put a bored-out 460 (504ci) w/Holly 850 double pumper in an '82 Mustang GT. Simple swap with stupid power. Of course, it couldn't turn for **** but it was for drag racing.

It was fun using it to tow my 280Z Auto-X car to the track back then. Of course, that was WAY back in the 80's... Long before most of you were a glimmer in yer daddy's eye!

Shortly after I decided it was more fun to get HOURS in the seat at a road race than SECONDS in the seat at the drags or Auto-X...

Nice work! There was a VK56DE from an 07 Titan (with VVT) on CL recently in my hood for $700. I was trying to figure out what I could put it into...

And for the love of God, can someone please go through and delete all of the useless keyboard engine experts posts? I was getting pissed reading through these posts trying to find VALUABLE info....

Man you guys are 'tards with the this that and the other engine is this that and the other thing. I wasted 15 minutes of my life swimming through that garbage.

the vh weights about 500lbs and the z32 trans around 100lbs.i cant find a weight on the l24 and 5spd that i took out. i believe the vh is lighter than the l24. the vh is all aluminum. the max actually sit a little higher in the front with the vh but my coilover conversion took care of that.

This is all new to me on How Popular this engine really is in the Nissan Community....You might have the only 1st Gen Maxima with a VH45DE....which will be a monster.....I recently looked at some of the more popular swaps in S13/14/15, Z31/Z32 but I haven't seen a VH45DE stuff into an Imfamous Datsun 510, that would be awesome!!!! here's one of my favorite and I hope you have a finished product this this:
