Yo! Daddy'O you can't run 13's if you ain't got no POWER!!!! Start pullin motor parts off a 280Z. Hell, pull the whole damn motor. switch oil pans and th oil pick-up and drop it in. Don't forget the wire harness and the computer.

I'd suggest 3 ways one is going with a SBC (small block chevy). A 350SB with performance heads/cams/IM would no doubt put the car in the 13s. The second way is use a VG30ET from a 84-89 300zx turbo. Or you could build the L24E into a turbo engine. Given the choice I'd rather get a torquey SBC backed by a T56 tranny or 4spd auto with high stall convertor.

I drive every day to and from work, and its the fastest car on the jobsite. Its just a little expensive on gas because I can only use 93 octane fuel with octane booster.

I doubt either of those would fit

All of these engines all share the inline 6 cylinder configuration and I've seen a SupraTT engine swap into a 240z so why not the 810 maxima?

If you can fit a 5.7L V8 in there, I'm sure there wouldn't be a problem to put a 2.6 or 3.0L 6 cyl engine in there, even with a pair of turbos. Although, I'd probably go with either the 280Z or 350 Chevy engines as those would probably be the cheapest to swap out.

Throw a 100 shot of NOS on it and it should break into the 13s, then your motor will be dead from the shock, but you can say that you made it into the 13s, once.........

best of luck

If you get one you'll know why. you can strap on a lot more power to a rear-wheel car than you can a front wheel drive car. plus, I don't know about anybody else's max, but my max is basically a 4-door 280Z.

Easy Swap

The obvious swap for ease of drivability is the 280ZX Turbo. I can't believe nobody mentioned it. You can pull 300 rear wheel horsepower from the nissan L28 Turbo without changing valves, pistons, or head gasket. You'll need aftermarket turbo equipment, but its all easy bolt-on. Use the 280ZXT Borg Warner T5 5-speed behind it, or you'll blow up a n/a 280ZX transmission. It sets right down on your engine mounts and everything!

You'll need all the wiring and extra sensors on the engine of course, but its a whole lot more reliable than a Chevy! That engine might even pass emissions too! I mean, a 1981-83 280ZX Turbo probably is made for the same emissions regulations as an 81-84 Maxima

Also, only the 82-83 Turbo had the 5-speed option. All 81 turbo's came with an auto from the factory.

And don't even start using turbo parts on the L24 engine. The compression is too high on that engine for a turbo, the valves in the maxima's head are smaller, and the exhaust ports are smaller. Just use the whole 280ZX Turbo block and head

Listen to bleach he knows what he is talking about! You'd be amazed how far a 280ZXT's l28et will take you. You get get the thing for next to nothing. The only mods required is the oil pan(gotta make provisions for the turbo oil line on the maxima pan), the oil pickup(like mentioned earlier), and you gotta do the wiring for the 280ZXT ECU and harnes. Pretty much everything else is a direct bolt in! Add an intercooler and turn up the boost and you'll easly be faster than 90% of the cars here.

BTW I swapped a 280ZXT motor into my '77 using '77 EFI and igntion last month. Dont know how good it works yet cause I got some problems with my cooolant leaking. But I'm getting my radiator back friday and she'll be ready to roll!!
