Q's re: intake for '88

Hello everybody, I am 100% sure this topic has been posted before but I'll ask again. The stock air box is VERY restrictive
What do I need to do to make my '88 breathe cold fresh air?

The easiest way to do it is to buy a MAF adapter and attach it to your mass air flow sensor. Then buy a cone air filter that would fit on that adapter and your set. Just make sure there are no air leaks. To set up a cold air intake, you'd have to attach a hose to that adapter, run it to the bottom of the car in front of the wheel well, and have the cone air filter attach to the hose. I haven't yet done it because I want to get the MAF adapter first. You could make your own custom adapter, but it's probably not worth the effort considering you can get them for around $20.

By the way, since you still have the stock air box, I'd suggest disconnecting the air injection valve hose from it (it's the small hose that connects to the side). Once the AIV goes bad, it starts to leak fluid into the airbox, which in turn go into the MAF sensor and destroys it. Once the MAF breaks, your car will run like sh*t (I know this from experience), and it costs around $100 for a used one.

Also, if you haven't already, join the Second Generation Nissan Maxima Club, the link is posted in my signature.

I have a nissan air filter adapter, I got it online from ppr performance, it was like 20.00. and I have a cone filter from ractive but I havent put it yet. Go to ppr performance and get the adapter and buy a cone filter at any race shop and youll be fine. The nissan adapter fits all nissan mafs so you sould be fine buying one at a race shop.

Right on. Thanks for all the input. When I go to the shop, what do I tell them I need? A MAP sensor adapter for a cone filter?

Thanks again.
