coilovers are a spring that gives you the abililty to adjust the coil. with these you can manually adjust the coil,compressing it to make the car lower or letting it out to raise it back up using a special wrench. usually about 2-3 inches of adjustibility. so basically you can slam your car for a show or whatever and then raise it back up for the street. wish someone would make some for third gen maxs
