Hi all,

I just recently (as in this morning) ran into a problem, and I wanted to get some feedback as to what you thought. I was sitting in the drive-thru of the bank trying to get some 'coin', when I decided to back up and get in another lane. As I was doing this, there was a sharp 'clunk', and then the car stopped moving (keep in mind, this is a '92 SE Automatic). No matter what gear I put it in... nothing. There was a slight grinding as I went from reverse to park, sort of like if you don't put the clutch in all the way in a manual tranny, but other than that, nada. I'm wondering if I should consider scrapping the tranny or could this be something minor? I just spent almost 2K on a new engine less than 3 weeks ago, and I'm just a bit concerned, as you can imagine.

I'm afraid to say........

that your tranny has sh*tted on you!!! I've been through 3 rebuilds(all under warranty, phew) and those were the exact same symptoms right before #2(which was the mechanics fault for incorrect install). anyways how'd you get the car home(did it drive forward?)?? Were there any other symptoms??? sorry to tell ya, but look to be spending another $1-2gs in your near future!!! good luck, trust me I know it really sucks!!

Actually, I had someone pull my car to the same shop I had my engine put in at. There was no forward motion at all. Everything was ok up until that point, so I had no warning signs to alert me. All I could do was sit in the car with the new engine running, look p-o'd, and try to stay warm(it's ONLY -10 degrees here in ND). Well, at least I know what I'm up against. I wonder if I should just drop in a used tranny and hope for the best?
