So I was washing my max the other day and I was staring at the beauty of the car after I was all done and then suddenly an idea hit me. I was thinking about how I needed to clean that d*** power antenna and get some silicone on it so it won't stick and I realized how sweet it would be (IMO) to have two power antennas, one on each side of the car. I thought about how much I like symetrical cars and how out of place that d*** antenna looks. I also thought about the poor reception I get but that isn't really a factor. Anyone have any ideas on how much a whole new antenna assembly with wires would cost and where to get one? How about the feasibility of the whole idea? I haven't looked at the area I would need for the new antenna assembly because I haven't had a chance too. Just thought I would share my idea with all of you and maybe give someone with the means of carrying out the project a good idea. Anyways post your feelings on the idea/project. Ricey? Stupid? Original?

honestly...ricey no...i don't think they've thought of that one yet...stupid...yes...probably not worth it...you would have to splice all of the wires to work with the existing one...(not too hard)...cut a hole to make it fit on the other side (PITA)...and the point of 2...none...if you needed 2 they would come with 2...do you have the stock or an aftermarket unit?

Actually they do have two antennae. The Nissan diversity antenna uses the mast antenna as the main signal source but has a second antenna imprinted on the rear glass above the heater elements. The 5th gen got rid of the mast (purely for cleaner looks) and replaced it with a second element imprinted on the rear glass. Splicing a second mast into the stock system wouldn't be too hard at all.

I think it would look good if you shaved the antenna(take it off completely) and put on on the rear windshield like the 5th gens have..

Huh-huh-huh...he said shaved...anyways

Hmm...anyone tried just hooking up the one in the back window to see if it works good?
My antenna is broken so im looking to remove it anyway...
If the one in the window is sufficient then thatd be sweet.

That's an idea....

I'd like to take mine out completly and body smooth it over before I get a repaint. then add it in the roof line like a JETTA IS300. Or just possibly get a reception amplifier and place it in the head liner. the antenna throws the whole look off to me.

Attn-Mr. Rose

Is that pic of your max with Intrax springs and cobra wheels? that ride height is perfect.

At the moment I have no antenna, it was broken off when I bought the car. I solely use the window one but the reception is not all that great. I do get some stations but you can only really listen to what it will let you listen to. I really wnat the IS300 style antenna but I don't know hot to hook it up to the exsisting wiring. Anybody???

Nope, That pic was photoshopped. In order to get the car to ride at that height you would have to cut a set of lowering springs. Thats about how high my car sits with my springs though.

Crutchfield sells power antennae that can be used in Maximas and they look stock as far as I know. The unit it'self is like $60.00 or so. Where can you get a signal amplifier and how does it work. I want one. I have to admit though, I have the stock bose head unit and it gets better radio reception than most cars. That FM Diversity really works. I live about 5 hours from Dallas and at about 130 miles out I can catch most of their radio stations clear.

well, there went that idea...

Thanks for all the input but it is basically a moot point because my stock antenna froze last night with almost everything on the car including doors, handles, keyholes, etc. So anyways, I think one POS power antenna is enough.

Taking it out wouldnt help. the antenna on the window would only be good if you lived near the flats, no trees. So keep the mast one or get a roof mounted one and install it. I think thatf be your best bet for looks and usage.
