Place to get a new tranny and at what price?
My brother has an '89 with a '91 motor in it. Recently he's been having some issues with the tranny (automatic) and it won't be long before it goes out. Anyone have any suggestions as to where to get one. I've found numerous salvage yards and rebuild shops on the net that have them anywhere from $750 to $1500. Just wanting to know if there's anyone you guys recommend or anyone he should avoid. Thanks.

I've got one in my parts car that could use a rebuild. it's got 120k on it, and it's beginning to shift into 2nd hard (needs new clutch bands), but other than that it's in good shape.
Also missing the speed sensor, but that's not that big of a deal.
You can stick it in the car as-is and it'll work- should last another 10-20k before NEEDING a rebuild, but I would recommend getting it done now while it's out of the car and there's nothing really broken on it other than worn clutch bands.
It's in Tulsa too- only a few hours from you!
I don't have time to pull it myself, but if you guys are willing to do the work, I'll give it to you VERY cheap. (low 3 figures)
If you want it, shoot me an email or something and we'll talk business. (blehm@utulsa.edu)
Thanks!

Nope. they don't offer them for 3rd gen GXEs. SE, yes. GXE, no.
the hard shifting is a common symptom of wearing clutches.
