VG30DE compression/internals?

anyone know the stock compression on the VG30DE? and if the block used in vg30de's was mounted with vg30e heads would it effect the compression? in other words are the internals the same?

Re: VG30DE compression/internals?

So are you going to order the VG30E heads that were made from 5/88-4/89 for a z31 from a nissan dealer? Otherwise your VG heads won't fit because they are different. 30E heads on a DE would be a waste of $$ and time. VG33E should be done instead.

no, i was wondering because i might purchase a max which the owner said he replaced the block with one from a vg30de.

i had planned on buying the vehicle for a project, and was just curious about the differences if any.

Nismo, what parts would need to be different on the vg33e that could otherwise be used on the vg30e? I don't want to have too many custom parts made, so I was attracted to the idea of using parts from the vg30de. If the only difference between the vg30e and the vg33e is the bore of the pistons, then I may consider building the 33. Thanks

Someone posted a little while ago that the VG33E engine has a different mount of sleeving than the VG30E that would allow you to bore the VG33E out even more. Thus you could bore out the VG33E more than the VG30E because of the sleeve material and thickness. Sounds plausible, but it could just be hearsay.

I don't believe the VG33 is really any bigger in width than the VG30. The VG33 has different sleeves thus giving the bigger displacement. Is this for NA or boost? The only thing that can be interchanged is the bottom end (crank, rods) and the cams in the heads. There isn't really any need to use a 30DE block when you can order the factory rods + pistons from a VG30DE for the VG30E. Now the VG33 is going to need custom pistons if you high compression or you can order the pistons from the supercharged frontiers for boost.

Has anyone researched the motor mount positions of the VG33E compared to the VG30E. I wouldn't mind just dropping in a supercharged frontier motor, even though hood clearance would be a large problem.

The VG33 has simular mounts just like the VG30 does. The supercharged VG33 won't fit unless you have a hood with a hole in it. It would stick out like some of those hot rods do. The regular VG33 would go nicely with a T3 from a Z31. With headwork + turbo cams it would make 250-270whp easy, where as the VG30 would struggle to get 250whp.

would you have to lower the compression of the vg33 to turbo or is it pretty low?

well... i'm wanting to do the vg30et swap but it sounds like the vg33 is better to use. i think i'll just stick with the 30 though because it will be less of a hassle.

Not if the engine is tuned properly. It runs 9.0 CR stock IIRC.
