Problem when accelerating! Plz Help!!

hey,

i own a 1989 Nissan Maxima SE. it has done approx. 250,000 KM. Recently, i have been having this problem when i drive on the highway and on normal roads. when im driving at 60-80km/hr and i want to accelerate and go faster, the car is unresponsive. i press the peddle all the way to the floor and nothing happens. the engine just begins to rev real loud. During highway driveing, this occurs as well, where i sometimes have to release my pressure on the peddle and after a few seconds then hit the gas pedal. Could someone plz help me out with this? is it the engine, specifically the pistons? the transmision? it only seems to happen between 60km/hr - 90km/hr.

Do you have a 5 spd standard, if so it sounds as if your clutch is shot !

Actually, a mechanice told me that the transmission was in bad shape. on the first gear change, it does have a noticeable "slip".
but how come it only occurs between 60 - 90km/hr. i have gone past it, to about 130km/hr and nothing seems wrong. it just seems to come and go.

Yup, that's what they call tranny slipping. My condolences, it's gonna cost a lot of money to fix!
