try buying clear smoke spray paint, either from a hobby store or if you can find actual car spray. take the lights out of the car and spray them in light coats. you may want to scuff the lights down with a scotch brite pad first. spray them about 10 minutes appart one light coat until the darkness you want is acheived. you may weant to put the spray can in warm water to get it to spray out finer. good luck

Do you know where I could find it and what do you mean by "scuff the lights down with a scotch brite pad"? I was wondering if you knew at all how many times it would take to get almost full black, how well u would see the lights at night, and is it legal?

Don't do that, it will ruin your tail lights. You'll be able to see the scuffs in the lenses, trust me.
You can order the spray on line, but if you are having troubles finding what you need you can e-mail me. Good luck.

well i was lazy at the time i did this but it's better 2 take it off

here r the steps...

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION OF TAILIGHTS

-remove the nuts which secure the taillights lens to the body

-remove the bulb holder which attaches to the tailight

-carefully pull the taillight from the vehicle...IF necessary, use a heatgun or hairdryer to soften the butyl sealent

INSTALL

-apply new butyl sealent to the lens(if needed) or if u want just do it

-install the tailight...tighten the nuts securely, but don't overtighten them.....

-install the bulb holder th the taillight

hope this helps....and i got this from the repair manual

would it be better to open up the taillight assembly and spray the inside of the lens instead of on the outside? That way you still get a gloss finish from the exterior and smoked from the inside.

Nope. It sounds like a good idea, but I have tried it and the results were less than satisfactory. Besides, you can't get all of the taillight that way.
