Weird problem
Weird problem
My car has been misfiring and putting for a little while now and I've had it checked out twice without any success to determine the cause. I drove down to Knoxville the other day and when I was unloading my trunk, I noticed that the floor over the muffler was extremely hot. I didn't think anything of it until last night, so I think I may know what's wrong.
Anyway, I had a tune up at the beginning of the summer and the dealer told me that I needed my injectors cleaned to fix the problem. Well, Saturday I had that done and it's still putting, but not misfiring. They also did a computer diagnostic of my electrical system and checked all my injectors to see if they are functioning properly - they all are. The garage told me to replace my plug wires to fix the problem. I replaced those too and it's still doing it! So, last night I was thinking about how hot my trunk got due to my muffler and I thought "$hit, I bet my muffler has internally collapsed!" If that's the case, my car is just choking on its own exhaust and that's what's causing it to spudder and causing my muffler to get so hot. What do you guys think?

that could be it.. have you changed your y pipe or cat back..?it might just be rusted and old.. that is all i could think of.. i now that the trunk should not be hot... and yes if your getting a poor preformance it might just be "choking"... time to invest in a whole new exhust system..
cat &/or muffler?
Do you think I need both? The cats usually last twice as long as the stock muffler. I'm going to Midas or so to get the back-pressure checked out this afternoon. Do you know of any good/durable/innexpensive performance mufflers that won't be too loud? I've been considering getting another Flowmaster for my car, but the one I had on my old car just rusted away. I don't know how long it would have lasted because I totaled that car 3 years ago.
well its early and wait for some of the orther 3rd gen ownersto answer...i have no exhust mod yet, if you want you can use a 5th gen muffler. it wont be loud and its looks good.. just take your max and get it inspected... i am certain that a local owner will help you. just dont go to minekee
