Whenever I go to start my car, the first attempt at ignition, I get this sharp noise..I don't really know how to describe it other than the motor does not respond. But on the second, third or fourth attempts, the car starts normally.

I don't think it's my battery because there is plenty of juice even on the first try. Maybe the ignition system? I don't know.

Any of you recognize this?

your starter is starting to go.
Time to replace
Really high pitched WING annoying sound right?

How much do new starters cost for our max's?

starter, my friends 87 toyota does the same thing.

i would say usually rebuilt starters are around 100 bucks for most cars.

I saw some starters for our cars on E-bay for really cheap....like $20 or $30...but I don't remember for sure.

My car makes this noise on start up. Its only for a sec and is not that high pitch and it only happens when its cold. Could that be the starter too??

Elaborate...is it after it starts or as it is spinning to start? if its after starting..could be noise from oil psi not building up yet(mine does this).

yes its after the cars already started. Is lack of pressure during start up normal or fixable??

if its only for a sec, then im pretty sure thats normal. Could try using a Nissan oil filter to try to help(sometimes that helps). On mine i think i have excessive bearing clearances..which can also do that.
